In a Multiplication Chart, the results are displayed in a table (with columns and rows), whereas in a Times table Chart they are displayed as a list of increasing multiplications.
Here the list starts at 8x1 and ends at 8x12. One way to memorize your table is to recite it aloud in this way:
“ 8 times 1... 8, 8 times 2... 16, 8 times 3... 24, 8 times 4... 32, 8 times 5... 40, 8 times 6... 48, 8 times 7... 56, 8 times 8... 64, 8 times 9... 72, 8 times 10... 80, 8 times 11... 88, 8 times 12... 96 ”
This way of learning using auditory memory is effective for many children.

Trick for the 8 times table
In the 8 times table, there are only 1 multiplication to learn! It is 8 x 8 = 64. Memorize 8 x 8 multiplication once and for all, in record time, thanks to the octopuses picture and story!
Why there is only one multiplication to learn?
- When you get to the 8 times table, it means you've learned your tables from 2 to 7, so you should already know the multiplications 8 x 2 (= 2 x 8), 8 x 3 (= 3 x 8), 8 x 4 (= 4 x 8), 8 x 5 (= 5 x 8), 8 x 6 (= 6 x 8) et 8 x 7 (= 7 x 8). If not, keep practicing with the previous tables before tackling the 8 times table.
- And for the 8 x 9 multiplication, you don't need to know it by heart, because there's a trick that makes it easy to find all the results of the 9 times table.
The results of the 8 times table
- 8 x 1 = 8 (see 1 times table)
- 8 x 2 = 16 (see 2 times table)
- 8 x 3 = 24 (see 3 times table)
- 8 x 4 = 32 (see 4 times table)
- 8 x 5 = 40 (see 5 times table)
- 8 x 6 = 48 (see 6 times table)
- 8 x 7 = 56 (see 8 Times table)
- 8 x 8 = 64 To know by heart! (see the trick below)
- 8 x 9 = 72 You don't need to know it by heart, there's a trick for the 9 times table
- 8 x 10 = 80 (see 10 times table)
- 8 x 11 = 88 (see 11 times table)
- 8 x 12 = 96 (see 12 times table)
Trick to memorize 8 x 8
Story of the 2 octopuses:
Two octopuses in the shape of an 8 are on their buoys.
They both get off the buoy.
The first octopus wants to observe the fish, so he puts on his mask and snorkel. The snorkel and his head on the surface of the water form a 6.
The second octopus, wearing a sailor's cap, prefers to go sailing. He moves away on a sailboat in the shape of a 4.
You know now that 8 x 8 = 64.

How to learn your 8 times table ?
Once you've learnt your times table, don't forget to practice! This will help you memorise the 8 times table over the long term. To do this, we suggest two types of exercise: an interactive online exercise or printable exercises to do at home. Choose the method you prefer!
1- Practice with this online exercise
In this exercise, you can choose between several settings, so it's up to you to select the ones that suit you best. Here are the available options:
- Number color: By choosing the colorful numbers option, the color code of the table of 8 (dark purple) is applied. This is the same color code as the printable 8 times table chart at the top of the page. The use of color helps memorization, so we highly recommend the colorful mode!
- Number format: you can choose a specific font for the numbers. There are standard fonts, but also school fonts. Select the one that's closest to the one used at school.
- Game mode: random or increasing. When you don't know your table very well, we advise you to start with the "increasing" mode. As soon as you feel more comfortable, try the "random" mode, which is a little more difficult but will help you memorize all the multiplications in the 8 times table.
You'll notice that at the very bottom of the exercise, we display your most common errors. This will help you to know which multiplications are still giving you trouble, and so, which ones you need to keep practicing.
If you like this exercise, you can also practice with the other tables in the All times tables section.
